Mathematics couldn’t be more important here on the island whether you’re calibrating the electrical current that will flow from a coconut shell battery charger or determining the correct pitch for a new xylophone fashioned out of bamboo reeds. So as Mary Ann and I (the Professor) fired up the coconut cam the other night we couldn’t help but wonder…
What are the odds at any given time you decide to log onto ChatRoulette.com dressed as an Imperial Stormtrooper, a various colored neon, nylon freak, one of the super mario bros, etc, that you may find yourself face to face with your soulmate, your nemesis, your brother, or even someone who has an inked message on their stomach matching the message displayed on the t-shirt you’re wearing? Apparently very good, the picture at right would suggest.
In mathematics the study of random phenomena is called the probability theory. Whether the toss of a coin or roll of the dice, if repeated enough times the sequence of a seemingly random event will exhibit certain statistical patterns which can be studied, then predicted.

This may be the first post on the road to infinity as we weigh the seemingly boundless absurdity generated by the hit web sensation ChatRoulette.com
Unfortunately, we did not stumble across Mr. Leopard ourselves at our first spin on the wheel. The news of Chat Roulette traveled slowly upon the waves to our deserted island where Mary Ann had been assisting me with building a new laptop PC out of a coconut, and by the time of our discovery many of the zany things that were to happen, had already happened. But we were inspired by the accompanying pic (can you imagine?) to say the least, as we couldn’t help ponder things like;
- how long did our feline friend spend getting ready for his big night in front of the camera?
- what does he do when not starring on the net?
- does he wear the costume all the time?
- is he a super hero, a villain?
- are there others like him, perhaps a whole band of leopard men running wild?
Oh well, there was no way of knowing for sure. All I could do was put on a pair of my best kakis, make sure Mary Anne was tanned and lovely, then hop on the bicycle to power up the banana cam for yet another fateful tour into the unknown.
